In India many species of almond are appreciated as food and used in traditional diets. In this mini review proximate composition and mineral composition of four species are summarized and discussed. Clinical interventions are also summarized and discussed which elucidates the health benefits of almonds in prevention and management of diabetes. Almonds also possess certain bio active compounds which help to control the dietary glycemic load of diabetic patients.
