Study of tribal heritage of medicinal plants used by the people of Guna district

Meena Mewade and Priyanka Tiwari

The prioritisation of recording biodiversity and its traditional and medicinal applications by ethnic communities has been driven by the increasing risk of biopiracy, patent issues over bioresources, and the general loss and exploitation of biodiversity. Our forefathers utilised herbs to cure a wide range of ailments since medicinal plants have been used to make many different kinds of medicines for thousands of years. This led to the widespread use of these medicinal plants in both treatment and pharmaceutical production. The purpose of this research was to examine the variety of medicinal plants utilised by the indigenous people of the Guna district in Madhya Pradesh, India, despite the abundance of literature on ethnobotany pertaining to particular and varied indigenous communities. Therapeutic plants were the sole subjects of this survey, which also included information on their local names and traditional therapeutic use. In order to cure a wide range of human ailments, 32 different kinds of medicinal plants were gathered and identified from the research area. Species of medicinal plants from 26 genera and 18 families are included in the article. With eight species, the Fabaceae dominate the plant kingdom, while the Combretaceae come in second with four.
