Aegle marmelos a review of its phytochemical profile and pharmacological application

Aegle marmelos, also known as Bael, is a traditional Ayurvedic herb that has been utilized for generations in various medicinal compositions. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of Aegle marmelos' pharmacological properties and therapeutic potential. The plant extracts have been shown to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antidiabetic, antiulcer, hepatoprotective, antimalarial, Antispermatogenic, antiulcer, and anticancer effects. These functions are mediated by bioactive substances such as alkaloids, flavonoids, and coumarins. This paper also highlights the use of Aegle marmelos in different ailments such as fever, nausea, vomiting, swelling, diarrhoea, dyspepsia, seminal weakness, stomach pain, and intermittent fever etc. These effects are caused by the several phytoconstituents found in Aegle marmelos, including tannins, terpenoids, alkaloids, flavonoids, coumarins, glycosides, and saponins. As a result, it is worthwhile to study its medicinal characteristics in order to provide modern and ancient scientists with an overview of its current position. This review also discusses the possible use of the aforementioned plant in the pharmaceutical industry due to its extensive pharmacological properties.
