SV Saveetha, S Sharmila and T Purushoth Prabhu

The Traditional Medicinal System of Tamil has always had a cure for every possible ailment for mankind for centuries, without causing any harmful effects on the human body. This paper is a dissertation on the easily available herbal medicines which can be easily incorporated as a home remedy inspired by classic Siddha teachings for dysmenorrhea is the unbearable pain experienced by women during menstruation. According to Siddha literature, there are two types of dysmenorrhea: primary and secondary [1]. Primary dysmenorrhea is a common menstruation with pain which can stop after the completion of menstruation. It is recurrent and does not cause any serious, harmful complications to the body. Secondary dysmenorrhea is a serious condition which may be accompanied by underlying medical conditions like adenomyosis, fibroids or infections. This pain persists even after the termination of the menstrual cycle, and it does not accompany nausea, fatigue or diarrhoea. The scent of the Siddha system is to completely provide treatment to the ailment in the long term without causing any contradictions, which makes it a preferable option for treating dysmenorrhea. This paper is a sum of all the easily procurable herbal preparations which can provide temporary or permanent relief to dysmenorrhea from the classical siddha literature [2].
