Comprehensive review on the skin benefits of Ayurvedic Nalpamaradi oil

Anandhapriyan M and Srinivasaprabhu DK

Nalpamaradi oil, a traditional Ayurvedic formulation derived from four Ficus species (F. racemosa, F. benghalensis, F. microcarpa, F. religiosa), has been used for centuries in dermatological therapies. This review examines its phytochemical composition, mechanisms of action, clinical applications, and comparative efficacy against modern skincare treatments. Rich in bioactive compounds such as lupeol, quercetin, and psoralens, Nalpamaradi oil exhibits tyrosinase inhibition, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties, making it effective in managing hyperpigmentation, acne, eczema, psoriasis, and photoaging. Clinical studies suggest comparable efficacy to conventional treatments (e.g., hydroquinone, retinoids) with fewer adverse effects, supporting its role in integrative dermatology. However, further standardized research is needed to optimize formulations and validate therapeutic protocols.
